The Maine State Library is a great place to get started! They have many resources for the beginner as well as the seasoned genealogist. Their genealogy collection primarily emphasizes Maine, but also has good coverage of Massachusetts and New Hampshire. They have additional resources on other parts of New England and the Quebec Province and the Maritimes.
